Girl Boss Morning Routine

Today, girl bosses I am going to share with you my girl boss morning routine. Do understand that I am a human and do not do this every morning, but my schedule does allow me to do this mostly on weekends, and ill share some of the things I do on a weekday morning when I have school or work. So here it is!

I am at my most productive in the morning, so I try and wake up as early as possible. The sleep schedule that I have tried so hard to maintain is going to bed around 10:30-11pm and waking up between 7:00-7: 30 am. The first thing I do in the morning is open my blinds and let that natural light in, since it usually puts me in a positive mood, although recently it’s been grey and gloomy here in Canada. Ill go throughout the house and let as much natural light in, because if it looks dark in the house it’s like my brain won’t turn on to morning more.

Next, I go straight to the bathroom do my business and wash my face. Washing my face in the first few minutes after I wake up, wakes me up and feel more alert. The way I like to think of it, I am cleaning off the sleepiness off my face (which doesn’t necessarily work everyday… unfortunately).

After that is off to the kitchen to make myself some breakfast because if I do not eat, I will probably not make it out the door to school or work. But more importantly I will brew my coffee; coffee is honestly more than something that wakes you up, it feeds the soul and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and don’t even get me started on the first sip of coffee… it’s truly heavenly and divine.

Depending on the morning I will either hang out with parents for a bit, go get ready or for those more girl boss morning routines, I will take my coffee and go back to my room. This is my me time, essentially, it’s a part of the morning that lets me recharge, get myself in a good mood and set the day off on the right foot. I will sit down and plan my day or plan the next few days ahead of me if I have not done it recently. But this changes quite often and depends on the busyness of that day. But here are just a few recommendations of what you should do during this time.

  • Meditate
  • Journal
  • Affirmations
  • Exercise/yoga
  • Planning
  • Thinking

Thinking might sound like an odd thing to incorporate into your morning routine, but it’s honestly when all my good ideas come about. It’s the beginning of the day, you are starting with a fresh slate, and the self-doubt and dampens on your mood that can occur throughout the day is nowhere in sight. So, by just sitting in my bed and sipping my coffee and thinking, I can think about how I want the day to go, or a project, a new blog post I want to write. Or even daydreaming about upcoming things in my life that I want to make happen. We usually never give ourselves the time to just be. Just to sit, drink coffee and be there or think about all the good things, or about something that excites us!

After this, which I will for about 5-20 minutes, once again depending on the day, it is off to get ready. I will scramble to put on some makeup, give up on my hair and put an outfit together. But one thing I make sure of is that what I am wearing or how much makeup I am wearing matches what I want to feel like that day. If I feel like wearing no makeup, then so be it. If I want to dress up a bit and wear an outfit I feel confident in, then why not! This part of my morning gives me this edge or sense of empowerment because I am at a point in my life where I choose whether I want to wear makeup or how much of it I want to wear, it does not feel like an obligation. I feel like I am free to wear anything and everything I want, I don’t have to confine to this idea of what I should wear.

After that, I am out of the door, and its time to get on with my day.

Girl bosses you need to create your own routine that has moments for yourself, that are healthy in terms of what you eat and the kind of talks you have with yourself. If you take anything away from this blog post its that small little things can make us feel empowered, and that taking care of yourself in the morning should be a priority.
